you've got to love shoes, and i certainly fell in love with these, a complete bargain down a Gunwharf.. and they are versatile, which is a rarity among most my shoes!

relax.

after having spent what felt like months concentrating on fmp, i escaped to sun, sea and sand very soon after finishing, and how lovely it was. although it did mean i missed the taking down of the shows, although thanks to Gayle (textiles teacher) it had all been taken down when i returned. Thank you Gayle!!

the fashion show.

the fashion show meant the end to our final major projects, it ended the exhibition evening, showcasing the work of the fashion girls from my class. i am not one of those, but enjoyed being able to wear some of the garments that night. i think we all had a really good time, although slightly sad to be leaving each other.

Arti - amazing!!! i just loved the vibrant colours, although I'm sure you made us wear those head pieces so we tripped up for your amusement.. i couldn't see a thing!!!

Hazel - hazels multi way dresses. there were endless ways of changing the dresses to look completely different. i wanted to keep mine!!

just one way of changing the style of the dress.

Rosi - these beautiful dresses as based on different birds, they are stunning.

and then we have Sam - well i think we all thought his collection was breathtaking, and I'm sure he will go a very very long way!

the teachers. and the end.

final products.

a selection of photographs from my final exhibition.

a paper hanging decoration, created by folding newspaper with wire, then gently folding outwards.

screen printed cushion, with the bluebell design. displayed on the telephone table.

another hand screen printed design.

two hand made cards, wrapped in grease proof paper, the idea that envelopes don't need to be paper.

another two cards, this time i have created envelopes from scraps of old fabric.

a card created using felt manipulation, i also had my own ribbon printed. i like the finishing touches.

a hand printed linen tea towel.

hand printed linen napkins.

a card made using  fabric that dissolves in water.

a lavender bag, using fabric that dissolves. i also created a tag using shrinkable plastic.

from this to this.

i knew from the start of my project i wanted to have a go at re-inventing an old tired piece of furniture into something more sophisticated and relevant to styles now; of course the idea of recycling old furniture fitted well into my 'green living' theme.

from this.

i found this cabinet when i visited the local rubbish tip, for £10 i thought it was a bargain. unfortunately it didn't have a key but to my surprise i found one that fitted at home... then when the door opened i found the original key inside. much to the surprise of Hazel (my friend) who laughed when i suggested i might have a key that fitted at home.

to this.

i later found a mirror that i also painted in a neutral colour, this sits perfectly at the back. the next piece of furniture i found also came from the tip, this time a telephone table costing £5. i started to get good at this bargain hunting.

from this.

to this.

i hope that the finished results reflect my intentions, above i have hand printed the design for the chair, and styled the seat with my own cushions, also hand screen printed.

sketchbook.

this selection of pages from my sketchbook, shows my thought proccesses and design ideas. i found it valuble to scribble down anything i found to be of interest and document designers that i felt were relevant to my work.

resin.

i created these resin bangles by picking some flowers from the garden and allowing them to set within the resin; in a bangle mould. i realised that resin wasn't very environmentally friendly therefore i looked into using corn resin however this was only available with large commercial orders and very expensive. possibly something to look into in the future when baring in mind the environment.

these bangles were made in a similar way, except i used dried herbs and cress seeds.

intital ideas.

creating a powerpoint to inform others of my ideas meant that i could set myself a clear focus of what i wanted to achieve. i  noted down the theme of my project, then explored designers that i could look at and places that i could source information from. then i set out to design a mood board of the type of feeling i hoped my boutique would protray, i picked out various tones of gree, natural materials and ways of achieving the 'green living' look. i also made a screen of products i hoped i would be able to create, this included stickers, cards, re-inventing old pieces of furniture, resin and laser cutting.

stranded.

it was around this time; only a week or so into my project that i ended up being stranded in Spain for a week due to the volcanic eruption, having spent a week there already over half term. although having an extra week in a luxury hotel and soaking up the sun, i wasn't complaining. fmp seemed to fade away into the distance, something i would worry about more when i eventually returned home.

something green.

i started by taking photographs of herbs, plants and vegetables in order to create some initial imagery that i could then draw from and develop into prints.

FMP.

having documented a small selection of my work from art foundation, i can begin to embark on posting all the fun and games that my Final Majour Project entailed. being able to design our briefs proved challenging at first, i realised i wanted to explore the idea of being green, and using
this theme explore ways of producing products that would fit into a boutique enviroment.

'' 'The Greenhouse' I feel this represents the nature of my boutique both literally and more subtly through the connotations of the term in our modern day environment. Not only does ‘The Greenhouse’ denote the useful garden apparatus in which to aid the growth and development of plants: directly linking into the ‘green’ idea of my project through the natural cycle of reuse and redevelopment. But it also conjures up the connotations of greenhouse gases, carbon emissions and the necessity for recycling and reuse as a result. I think that this name works extremely well as it portrays both the botanical influences within my initial ideas, as well as my intentions to create a ‘green living’ themed boutique. ''

i took this quote from the final paragraph of my evaluation, 'the greenhouse' is a brand i hope to continue to use when designing products based on 'green living'.
